About this wine

Some wines are made for a Sunday lunch that stretches into the evening, and this Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of them. Alain Jaume has been coaxing depth out of these old vines for generations, and the Vieux Terron shows exactly why that patience pays off.

In the glass it's deep ruby, almost opaque, and the nose moves between ripe cherry, blackberry and a box of warm spices. On the palate it's rich and full, with silky tannins that leave a lingering, almost saline finish rather than a heavy one.

This is a wine for the table: pour it with braised beef or venison, and if there's a wedge of blue cheese left at the end of the meal, don't hesitate. Open it an hour ahead and let it decant, then serve around 16 to 18 degrees.
