Some evenings you just want a glass of something easy but not simple, the kind of white you pour when friends drop by unannounced. This Chardonnay from Abbotts & Delaunay in the Coteaux du Languedoc does exactly that, no fuss, just good drinking.

In the glass it's a bright gold, and the nose opens on pear and green apple, with a touch of hazelnut and white flowers underneath. On the palate it stays fresh and layered, well balanced, finishing long with a gentle buttery note.

Pour it with scallops or a bowl of risotto, and it'll also do wonders next to a plate of goat cheese. Serve it chilled, around 10 to 12°C, and let it wake up in the glass for a few minutes.
