Domaine de Beauvent

Bernex, GenèveSwitzerland

The Domaine de Beauvent sits on the hillsides of Bernex, just a short drive from Geneva's city center. Bernard and Jérôme Cruz, father and son, run this family estate that spans 16 to 17 hectares of AOC Geneva vineyards. The terroir here is special. Clay and molasse soils mix together on south and southeast-facing slopes, giving the vines perfect sun exposure. The vineyards are planted low to the ground, following traditional methods that respect the landscape. You can walk through these slopes and catch stunning views of Geneva and the surrounding countryside.

The Cruz family philosophy

Bernard Cruz started this journey, and his son Jérôme joined him to continue the family tradition. In 2019, they were named best winemakers of Geneva when their Mondeuse 2015 won the highest score at the Sélection des Vins de Genève. That recognition came from years of careful work. The estate is certified Bio Suisse and carries the GRTA label, which guarantees local quality production. They farm organically across all their parcels, with no herbicides touching the soil. Everything is done by hand, from pruning to leaf thinning to harvesting. The winery itself is modern and thoughtful. Solar panels make it energy independent, and a water filtration system cleans all wastewater before it flows into a small pond below. Jérôme approaches winemaking with pragmatism and openness. He doesn't make minimal intervention a religion, but he does keep things as natural as possible in the cellar, letting each wine express itself freely.

The wines

The domaine works with 15 to 16 different grape varieties, producing both traditional and natural wines. You'll find classic Geneva whites like Chasselas, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and more unusual ones like Aligoté, Chenin, and Gewürztraminer. The reds include Gamay and Pinot Noir, plus Swiss crossings like Gamaret and Garanoir, alongside international varieties such as Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Some parcels are classified as Premier Cru by the canton. The Syrah 1er Cru ages 18 months in barrique and earned 90 points from Falstaff. Their L'Esprit de Genève blend combines Gamay, Garanoir, Gamaret, and Syrah into a fresh, berry-driven red. The estate has won multiple gold and silver medals at competitions, and their wines regularly appear on lists of Geneva's finest producers.
