About this wine
Picture a cool autumn evening, the kind where you want a red that feels both rich and quietly serious. This Pinot Noir Spätlese from aagne weingut, grown right in Schaffhausen, is exactly the bottle to pull out when the conversation gets good.
In the glass it shows a dark, almost sombre ruby. The nose opens on ripe black berries and dried fruit, with a spicy edge and a whisper of roasted notes. On the palate it's generous and round, the fruit folding into a dense, persistent finish held together by soft, fine-grained tannins.
Pour it alongside venison medallions or a slow-simmered game stew, where the spice in the glass meets the spice on the plate, or try it with roasted chicken for something lighter. Serve it at 16 to 18 degrees, no decanting needed, just give it a few minutes in the glass to open up.
