About this wine
This is the kind of bottle you tuck away for the evening when a friend says they're in the mood for something authentic. Humagne Rouge barely grows anywhere outside Valais, and La Rodeline treats this old grape with real care.
In the glass it's still a bright ruby red, and the nose opens on elderflower, honeysuckle and a touch of forest floor. The palate arrives fresh and smooth, red berries up front, then a lovely fullness builds through the middle, carried by tannins that are present but fine and well ripened.
Give it three to four years in the cellar to find its balance, or decant it for an hour if you'd rather drink it young, and pour it with grilled meats or a red deer fillet, with alpine cheese working nicely too. Serve at 16 to 18°C.
