This St-Emilion from Château Laroque is the kind of wine that makes you understand why Bordeaux's right bank has such a devoted following. The 2022 vintage brings together the plush elegance of Merlot with the aromatic lift of Cabernet Franc, creating a red that's both generous and refined.

On the nose, you'll find ripe dark fruits like blackberry and plum, woven together with hints of violet and a subtle earthy complexity. The palate is smooth and velvety, with silky tannins that carry the wine's rich fruit character through to a long, satisfying finish. There's a beautiful balance here between power and finesse, with just enough structure to keep things interesting.

This is a perfect match for roasted lamb with herbs, beef tenderloin, or a rich mushroom risotto. Decant it for at least an hour before serving to let it open up fully, and serve at around 17°C to bring out all its complexity.
