About this wine
Pommard has a reputation for being the sturdiest red in the Côte de Beaune, and this bottle from Domaine Michel Noëllat proves it. Open it on a night when you want something with a bit of grip, not just charm.
The colour is deep, almost opaque for a pinot noir. On the nose, thyme and garrigue mingle with dark berries, more forest floor than jam. The palate is long and mouth-watering, with a freshness that keeps pulling you back for another sip.
Pour it with duck breast or game birds, where the herbal notes really shine, or let it stand up to a good roast beef. Decant it an hour before serving, at around 16 to 18 degrees.
