About this wine
Plant Robert is one of those bottles you keep for the right moment, a rare old gamay vine that almost disappeared from Lavaux before growers like Laurent Berthet decided to save it. It's not an easy wine to find, which makes opening it feel like a small event in itself.
In the glass it's deep red with violet glints, and the nose moves from black pepper and coriander into cherry and blueberry, then settles into quieter notes of rosemary, violet, cocoa and peat. On the palate the tannins are firm, carried by a fresh acidity and a fullness that never tips into heaviness. It finishes on smoky, fruity cherry.
Pour it with duck breast or a coq au vin, where the spice and smoke in the wine find their match, and let it sit at room temperature, around 16 to 18 degrees, before you serve it.
