In the glass it shows a deep, intense ruby color. The nose opens on ripe black berries, with licorice and a touch of toasted oak layered underneath. On the palate it starts sweet and round, the fresh fruit carries through, and the tannins feel polished rather than gripping, with a finish that just keeps going.

Pour it with roast beef or a grilled sausage fresh off the fire, and if cheese is on the table, aged Parmesan will do it justice. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, no need to chill it down.
